Weekend Vibes: Vice Night Market Returns & A Canadian Oyster Shucking Challenge
The weekend before Thanksgiving will either be very chaotic as you prep your home for a gathering or give you the perfect amount of time to practice your response to political talk from the in-laws. We suggest sneaking away for some alone time at one of these preferred escapes:
Pineapple NY Presents: Tastes Like Home, WeWork, 511 W. 25th St., Thursday
We think it’s important to have a conversation about immigration, which is why we’re excited about this event moderated by Manal Kahi, the founder of Eat Offbeat. Additional attendees include Von Diaz, the author of Coconuts and Collards, and Hawa Hassan, founder of the Somali hot sauce company BasBaas. A cooking demo is included, with bites from Taim too. Reserve a ticket here.
Vice Night Market, Villain, 307 Kent Ave, Brooklyn, Friday
Live astrology readings, DJ sets, and food from Mekelburg’s and other vendors invade Williamsburg this weekend for Vice’s latest night market. Admission is free with an RSVP, but those who want a few extra perks can take a look at ticket packages here.
Fall Oyster Festival and Shucking Competition, Docks, 633 Third Avenue, Saturday
Dedicated to Canadian oysters, which are considered the most polite of all regional oyster families, Docks is hosting an all you can eat oyster bash along with a shucking competition. The grand prize is a grand, and guests who want to enter can register in advance. Ticket packages start at $70 and can be reserved here.
