Restaurants We Know You Want to Put on Your Radar: SoHo Diner
Diners are a proud institution that over time have disappeared in cities like New York. Why? Well going blind after reading 10 pages of menu options might have something to do with it, but it’s probably the fact these affordable, often family run institutions can’t stay competitive with large corporate chains and celebrity chef driven casual concepts. Thankfully, their nostalgic appeal has ushered in a wave of new operators that are taking the best elements of these greasy spoons and adjusting them to appease today’s dining trends. One such spot? SoHo Diner, a new 24-hour eatery located inside Manhattan’s Soho Grand Hotel.
We know the idea of a fancy diner may seem like an oxymoron, but just like jumbo shrimp, you’re going to want to take a bite. This particular establishment has chosen the best of New York City’s rich cultural mix when it comes to a menu, so expect everything from medianoche sandwiches to chopped chicken liver, and of course, disco fries. There’s obviously a sizable breakfast menu with burrata filled blitzes, huevos rancheros, and three different kinds of soft egg scrambles served with brioche toast because as we mentioned, fancy. If that doesn’t work for you, there’s an all day menu full of sandwiches and salads, and three different burgers. One of them is the Impossible Burger which we aren’t going to order because we like food that tastes good, but another is called the Stinky Cheeseburger because it’s topped with epoisses cheese and a raw onion. That one is calling our name. Take a look below at what stylish diner food looks like these days while you debate for hours how to correctly pronounce gyro.
