Restaurant Radar: Eat Cheese and Drink Wine in a Gondola at The Lavaux
When we look back at the damage done by global warming, the fall of fondue bars will likely be on that list. But while the weather is still cool enough to bring about a Fall chill followed by what will probably be an extra awful winter because 2020, we can still drown our sorrows with melted cheese and wine thanks to The Lavaux.
Fondue bars haven’t been opening recently in New York despite the scientifically proven fact that cheese paired with wine is essential a legal way to experience the effects of cocaine. Seriously, cheese and cocaine are essentially cousins which you can learn more about by checking out this GQ article. But Lavaux hopes to break the mold with its assortment of cheese and meat boards designed for people who don’t give a shit about diets. The cool thing about Lavaux is that they source wine directly from the Lavaux vineyard on Lake Geneva, a protected world heritage site since 2007 thanks to UNESCO. And because COVID-19, they also offer a take out menu, which means you never have to worry about how to make a perfect cheese board last minute for guests (if you ever plan to have them over again) which we know causes anxiety.
What we also love about this spot is that it was supposed to open in 2019, which means they persevered through the bullshit that has been 2020 in order to make their dream come true. The least we can do is eat all the cheese and drink all the good Chassis, right? You can make a reservation for indoor, outdoor, and apparently gondola dining via Resy.
