Weekend Vibes: It's Good To Be The King (of Hawaiian Rolls)
What’s up on Leap Year weekend? A lot. From a pop up restaurant focused on Hawaiian rolls to a party filled with Thai food and ice cream sundaes, this weekend is shaping up to be the weekend you fall out of shape.
King’s Hawaiian Breakfast Bungalow, 1701 Broadway, Friday through Sunday
Chef Jaime Young of Sunday in Brooklyn is the latest to get in on the branded pop up trend. King’s Hawaiian Breakfast Bungalow, a temporary restaurant that is making a menu out of the company’s various sweet breaded products, is open from now through March 1st. Though guests can select from a shit ton of toppings as part of a make your own sandwich experience, you may as well opt for chef suggestions like the chicken fried steak katsu sandwich with miso hollandaise. There’s also a spam, egg, and potato sandwich along with coconut s’mores french toast; tickets start at $10 and can be scored here.
Bowl of ‘Zole, 110 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn, Saturday
Our buddies at Food Karma Projects are always thinking about fun ways to bring people together through food, which is why we’re excited to see Bowl of ‘Zole come to fruition. Focused on pozole, chefs from across the city will compete to offer their best version of the classic Mexican stew. And if that doesn’t warm you up, the line up of mezcals like Del Maguey should do the trick. A $55 ticket is inclusive of all food and drink; snag them here.
Leap Day Party, OddFellows Ice Cream Co. DUMBO, 60 Water Street, Brooklyn, Saturday
Leap Day is all about doing the things you can’t do for another four years, and some places are coming up with some truly innovative collaborations this weekend. We endorse Oddfellows Ice Cream, which is joining forces with Fish Cheeks and Alyssa DiPasquale of O Ya for some Thai inspired ice cream sundaes, dinner, and sakes. A ticket, $30, includes dinner, drinks, and dessert; get them here.
