Weekend Vibes

If the fried chicken sandwich smackdown between Popeye’s and Chick-fil-A is tearing your life apart, we have a solution. We’re ready to end this debate by hosting a class that teaches us all how to make our own delicious fried chicken sandwiches. Let us know in the comments who you think Leisurely should partner with on that one. But until then, here’s a look at what we’re vibing with this weekend.

The Jazz Age Lawn Party, Colonels Row, Governors Island, Saturday and Sunday

No matter what decade we’re in currently, traveling back in time to the Prohibition Era will always be a welcomed retreat. That’s why we’re working on our flap attack for this weekend’s Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island. And since visiting Governors Island at least once a summer is an unspoken rule when visiting New York, we think the addition of live music, cocktails, and period attire makes this THE weekend to wake up early and grab a seat on the ferry. Trust us, you’ll feel like your a world - and hopefully an entire era - away. Tickets for both Saturday and Sunday’s festivities are available here.

Afropunk Festival, Commodore Barry Park, Brooklyn, Saturday and Sunday

We’re not ready to let go of the sounds of summer, which is why we’re big on sharing details on this year’s epic Afropunk Festival line up. FKA Twigs, Leon Bridges, and Gary Clark Jr. are just a few of the notable names ready to entertain the crowd, with performances running throughout all hours of the day. Check out the full festival line up here.

Street Art and Free Scoops of Ice Cream, Mikey Likes It, 199 Avenue A, Saturday through end of August

Enjoy free ice cream while supplies last starting from 4 pm to 9 pm. Mikey Likes it is hosting a collection of street art photography and artists on Saturday, with all proceeds from purchases going to support the Mikey Likes It Academy. What is this academy? Well it’s a nonprofit organization that trains at-risk youth in food services and provides them with opportunities to receive certification and employment. Give to charity and get some ice cream for your good deed? We think that’s something all of our Leisurely members can get behind.
