Restaurant Radar: Ha's Sandwich Shop
We’re known to favor banh mi’s here at Leisurely when we’re looking to avoid a sad desk lunch. It’s why we casually stalk the social media accounts of chefs that are known to make this delicious Vietnamese sandwich. And this weekend, we’re planning to take full advantage of a new bahn mi offering that features a familiar face.
Ha’s Sandwich Shop is the latest version of Has Dac Biet, the roaming Vietnamese pop up that had a major role in New York Times critic Pete Wells declaring Output the restaurant of the summer. At least that was until a day after Wells review ran and Has Dac Biet straight got up and left Output to be treated like human beings.
After spending sometime in France because Has Dac Biet has gone global, the team of Anthony Ha and Sadie Mae Burns are back in Manhattan doing what they love and delivering what the people want, at least for a weekend. We could go into detail, but instead we posted the current menu to make your mouth water. And this one pic of the banh mi they served while popping up at Frenchette Bakery:
Ha’s Sandwich Shop sounds like it might not be permanent just yet judging by its Instagram caption, so there’s no guarantees it’s going to appear again in the same space after this weekend. We definitely suggest arriving early and be ready with your order once they open at 12 pm.
